My #2018makenine

Rochelle over at @homerowfiberco developed the hashtag #makenine a couple of years ago. Her aim was to plan and focus on nine crafty projects to complete over the next 12 months. It was to promote slow sewing/knitting etc; for us to think about what we wanted to achieve over the year. A more detailed explanation can be found here on Rochelle’s blog.

I participated last year and although I didn’t complete all nine, I made many repeats of some of the patterns. I found it helped when I pondered what I should sew next. I’d take a look at my list and chose the pattern I was in the mood for.

Here’s a look at my #2017makenine.

Whilst I still aim to sew some of these and full intend to, I thought I’d start with a fresh batch of patterns for this years list.

So here’s the list for 2018.

I found it really hard to select just nine. These are all patterns I really want to sew and most I already have fabric in my stash for. I own all the patterns already with the exception of the ohhlulu Romper.

I’m desperate to sew a well fitted pair of trousers this year. I keep starting, but quickly stop when I realise how many fit adjustments I will need to make. So the Craftsy photo represents a pants fitting class I have purchased. It comes with a paper pattern to work with whilst going through the lessons.

The Simplicity 8084 Mimi G shirt dress pattern is the only one I’ve made before. I made it about 12 months ago but struggled with the placket a bit so it ended up a bit messy inside. Lucky it was a busy print so was still wearable!

I subscribe to Mimi G’s Sew It Academy, which provides online sewing lessons taught by Mimi G. Some of the early classes teach you how to create your own bodice and skirt sloper and then make garments from those.

I really want to use the skirt sloper to make a pencil skirt specifically for my measurements, so I’m going to give that a go.

The rest of the patterns are:

French Navy The Orla Dress

Colette Moneta

Named Sointu Kimono Tee

Victory Patterns Lola Dress

New Look Jumpsuit 6373

I’m excited to get cracking with my selections. Although I’m sure I’ll get distracted by all the new pattern releases throughout the year!
